Volunteers Needed! – Shelter Exercise: Saturday, April 26th

Shelter Exercise: Saturday, April 26th

Volunteers Needed!

The Western New York Region of the American Red Cross (Territory 2), Erie County, and the Town of Amherst will conduct an exercise designed to improve awareness of mass care shelter capabilities and limitations, especially as they relate to functional needs support services.

We are looking for families to represent households that have been evacuated as a result of local flooding.

Some family members may be given scenario cards to simulate various medical conditions or functional needs (non‐English speaking, visually impaired, limited mobility, specialized dietary needs, etc.). Families will be registered as clients of Red Cross Shelter and will be provided with medical or support services as needed.

Lunch will be provided and all families will receive educational materials and items to stock their family’s emergency preparedness kit. Participation in this exercise may also be utilized for students’ community service requirements.

This is a great opportunity for members of the community to see how an emergency shelter will operate.

We appreciate your participation in this important exercise.
